by Grace Barbé
There is much to like in Grace Barbé's album, Welele! Born in the tiny island nation of Seychelles, Grace's sound reflects that breezy sound of the Indian Ocean while also combining many others. You can hear afrobeat, rock, reggae and even a bit of jazz fusion in parts. Opener 'Afro-Sega' was released as a single a couple of years ago, it's an upbeat track that gives you the perfect taste of what the rest of the album will be. Musically, there's a little bit of all of those genres but also a whole heap of energy and a lot of fun! There are also slower grooves like the title track and 'Lesklav' which are real slow burners. However, there are dance tunes too like 'Mous Pran Fler' and the rearrangement of Lionel Richie's 'All Night Long' in the bonus track, 'Tou Lannwit'. A great album that will get you in the mood for summer!
