Playing their first headline show in Melbourne in over a year, The Woohoo Revue are back on Brunswick’s biggest stage with their unique brand of Balkan Jazz with support from Galata Express and The Willie Wagtails on Saturday, March 19.
Performing as part of The Brunswick Music Festival, this fiendishly talented collective has tirelessly toured their all-out instrumental party across Australia and Europe including Glastonbury, Fusion and Colours of Ostrava. Call them what you will – ‘Balkan gypsy brass band, roaring twenties swing ensemble, or a soundtrack for Looney Tunes’- it barely scratches the surface. There are few, if any parallels to the sound of The Woohoo Revue.
The Woohoo Revue will be joined by the Turkish Gypsy stylings of Galata Express – expect a repertoire straight from the gypsy streets of Turkey, close your eyes and feel as if you are right there. Expect to dance, laugh and sometimes cry with Melbourne’s favourite Turkish Gypsy six piece Galata Express.
Other supports come from The Willie Wagtails – an ocker jazz band that seeks to make connections with Australian history, landscape and politics in their songwriting. Their energetic, discordant folk-jazz smells distinctly like the bush, and they are sure to captivate you with stories of solar panels, creek-side rendezvous and Geoffrey Rush. Good for a raucous dance, their foot stomping rhythm is better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick!
The historic Estonian House in West Brunswick will be transformed into a full-scale concert venue by Shadow Electric for a series of unique shows as part of this year’s Brunswick Music Festival.
