Even though the title of this fabulous compilation sounds like a title for a uni assignment, it delivers 20 lesser known gems from the late sixties early seventies era of politicised Afro-American soul and funk. There are some names you'd recognise like Gil Scott-Heron, Tina Bryant, Groove Holmes and Lonnie Liston Smith, but lots of others that you'll be glad you get to know on this outstanding album. Look out for "Walk Tall" (Ester Morrow), "Cissy Struttin American Woman" (The Willard Posey Reunion) and "Love Hijack" (George Jackson). With a mixture of vocal and instrumental, album tracks and 45's, soulful and outrageous, this one should find its way into many PBS playlists.
