This week we celebrate the 1st anniversary of Wuigada and share the news of Wuigada being named a finalist in the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia 2021 Awards for Best Online Content. We take the time to reflect on Wuigada so far by speaking to project founder, Kutcha Edwards.
“One year on and what a great list of Aboriginal Singers and Songwriters have contributed to Wuigada (Mutti Mutti - to sing).Wuigada is an amazing representation of First Nations music from around the country.
The concept of Wuigada was always about passing along Songlines, giving space to Aboriginal artists to share their story & understanding the responsibility we Singer/Songwriters have representing our clans. It’s about getting our music out to not only our mob but non-Indigenous people hearing more about who us mob are & where we come from. We all benefit then.
As I always say, “It’s about dropping the pebble & creating a ripple.”
Wuigada on PBS has already included 22 Aboriginal artists and created an amazing YouTube playlist including 190 videos. It’s exciting because there are so many more artists still to be heard which means the Songlines will continue as they have since time began.
Thanks to Meg Butler and all involved at PBS for instigating the connection and continuing the support.”
Kutcha will be joining Maddy and Kurt on Homebrew on Monday 8 Nov at 3:15pm to talk more about Wuigada, music and Songlines. Tune in or listen back.
Kutcha also took the time to compile a very special 1st Anniversary Wuigada list that we can’t wait to share.
