In January 2020, desert rock pioneers Yawning Man made their long-awaited visit to our shores for a great tour of Australia and New Zealand. They dropped in to PBS to record a live set of two long earthy jams in Studio 5. It was fitting to have an international band of such calibre playing one of the last live sessions in Studio 5 just before the world shut down.
Forming in 1986, this revolutionary band was behind some of the first ever Generator Parties of the 80s and 90s, paving the way for such bands as Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and Somali Yacht Club, to name a few. The trio of Mario Lalli (Bass), Gary Arce (Guitar/Vocals) and now Bill Stinson (Drums), Yawning Man has crafted one of the most unique blends of psychedelic, post-rock and desert rock, strongly evident in their seven studio albums and 5 split LPs/EPs.
We are delighted to bring back their fabulous live set which you can hear in its entirety on Pojama People at 8pm on September 7.
Studio 5 Rewind is proudly brought to you by our mates at Mountain Goat.
