Guitarist Rafiq Bhatia is an artist who refuses to be constrained by the preconceptions of what’s expected from contemporary jazz musicians. Drawing inspiration from influences as varied a Jimi Hendrix and John Coltrane as well as from mentors and collaborators including Vijay Iyer and Billy Hart, Bhatia sees music as a way to actively shape and represent his own identity, not limited by anyone else’s prescribed perspective.
