In 2019, New York City’s A Place to Bury Strangers brought their mesmerising mix of pain and pleasure back to Australia with their fifth full length album Pinned. While they were down under, they made the time to record a ripper of a live set in Studio 5, which we are thrilled to revisit with you on Kev Lobotomi’s Shock Treatment.
Formed in 2003, A Place to Bury Strangers quickly garnered acclaim following their stunning performances with Brian Jonestown Massacre. It has been the band’s increasingly chaotic live performances that built their legion of fans and seen them applauded as the revival of the ominous, feedback-drenched drones of the 1980s.
The band recently put out a new single, 'Let’s See Each Other', the first teaser from their upcoming LP See Through You, out February 4, 2022 on Dedstrange. The song is a dizzying future-psych racket with strobe-lit moments of passion and fury fluttering through reverb, fuzz and fog. It's a hazy romp that’s very much in tune with the band’s sound and energy on previous albums.
Running levels well into the red on sound desks across the world, A Place to Bury Strangers suck you in with their paranoid pop only to be blowing you away again by gate-crashing melodies and sputtering percussion.
