On Wednesday September 13, Vince Peach broadcasts an exclusive recording from last year’s tribute concert for the late Pierre Baroni on Soul Time.
Pierre programmed and presented Soulgroove’66 on PBS from 2003 and had been a broadcaster at the station since 1997. Sadly Pierre passed away in March 2021 having continued to program and present his weekly program right up to the final week of his life.
In September 2022 Melbourne’s soul and funk community, led by Jake Mason (Cookin On 3 Burners), came together at the Brunswick Ballroom for a one-off tribute to our dear departed friend. In front of a packed house of soul fans, Pierre’s friends and PBS members, the band ran through some all-time favourite songs while sharing stories of their great affection for Pierre Baroni.
Thankfully the full concert was recorded and has been lovingly mixed and mastered by Jake Mason. This week on Soul Time, on the anniversary of the concert, we’ll hear highlights featuring guest vocalists Kylie Auldist, Tracey Miller, Josh Teskey and Loretta Miller out the front of the Pierre Baroni All-Stars (Jake Mason, Daniel Farrugia, Warren Hunter, Yuri Pavlinov, Nate Scott, Ross Irwin, Phil Noy and Darcy McNolty).
