After close to three decades on air at PBS, Peter Merrett (Mr Doo Wop) has announced that Malt Shop Hop is coming to an end on Wednesday March 5. Peter joined the station sometime around 1994 after launching Malt Shop Hop at Plenty Valley FM. He filled in a mix of shows at PBS, also presenting the weekly special at Fitzroy Street. Malt Shop Hop first appeared on the PBS program grid in 1999. A vital contributor of PBS, Peter was a key member of the construction team who oversaw our Easey Street fit-out and has also had roles in the PBS Music Library and within the blues and roots category at the station.
Peter has a vast knowledge of other forms of blues and roots music and has often stepped in to fill other programs when regulars have been away. This has often been at short notice, and Peter has always been keen to step in and help when needed. After Malt Shop Hop winds up we hope to hear Peter on PBS down the track doing fills and other programs within our blues and roots category.
Listeners are encouraged to tune in at 11am this Tuesday March 5 for one final episode of Malt Shop Hop. The text line will be open and we encourage everyone to share your messages of respect and thanks via 0400 03 1067.
