Music meets design with the groundbreaking fifth release from Sydney’s pioneering electronic music producer Michael Moebus, aka Meem. The new album ‘Monsters Don’t Sleep OK!’ features Mr Scruff, Roots Manuva, Raashan Ahmad & The Boom Band Krewe. The album is already gaining a lot of interest from indie radio and local press prior to its release.
Meem blends a broad range of styles and genres including funk, soul, hip-hop, reggae, gypsy, beats and boogie. He puts his own unique stamp on these influences with surprising rhythms & bucketloads of funk. Playing at major festivals such as Big Day Out, Sydney Festival, Peats Ridge Festival, Parklife, and Field Day, Meem is no stranger to the industry. He’s supported international heavyweights such as Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Jamie Lidell, Thievery Corporation, and Tom Findlay (Groove Armada).
The limited edition CD (only 200 copies produced) is packaged on a cut-out perspex monster shape, inside a screenprinted 12" plastic record sleeve. . In the same way Meem approaches his music, the CD design is refreshing, lovingly crafted, and unique. The design follows on from his previous limited edition releases, including packaging designs made out of wood, felt, and also vinyl upholstry. Meems design work has wowed many, driven by a desire to produce personalised artwork over generic design. He has been included in various CD Art publications alongside cover art for The Rolling Stones, and design by Andy Warhol.
