From Thursday 16 May the eighth Stonnington Jazz Festival will fill venues across Stonnington with the best of Australian jazz. For 10 days music lovers will have the chance to experience the most superb jazz music this country has to offer.
Stonnington Jazz is the most anticipated event on the jazz calendar. Proudly presenting 100% Australian artists, the festival features both established and emerging jazz musicians performing the spectrum of styles that the jazz genre encompasses.
The largest program presented by the festival features concerts at the Malvern Town Hall, Chapel Off Chapel and a range of other venues. Programmed by Adrian Jackson (also Artistic Director of the Wangaratta Jazz Festival), Stonnington Jazz will delight and inspire audiences with an extraordinary selection of talented musicians performing in often previously unseen collaborations.
Lineup announcements:
We are very excited to open this year’s festival with performances by two of Australia’s premier jazz singers. Michelle Nicolle joined by Geoff Hughes (guitar), Tom Lee (bass) and Ronny Ferella (drums) and guest saxophonist Paul Williamson. Kristen will be joined by Carl Morgan (guitar), Greg Coffin (piano), Brendan Clarke (bass) and Tim Firth (drums).
“It’s our commitment to book the best and promote 100 per cent home grown talent that has seen Stonnington Jazz become one of the leading jazz festivals in the country” Mayor Cr Matthew Koce said.
Malvern Town Hall will burst into a fun filled dance hall on Saturday 18 May when FLAP! and the mighty Hoodangers take to the stage. Both are sure to delight audiences with their musicianship, energy and irreverent humour.
