A stunning debut dedicated to strong women, Chelsea Wilson’s I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me has been two years in the making; having been slowly and carefully crafted to create an album themed upon heartbreak and loss.
With a stellar cast of musicians from Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos) to Jake Mason (Cookin’ on 3 Burners), the album contains injections of funk, soul, disco and reggae; demonstrating Wilson’s flair for diversity and unique interpretation. The first single “Through with Loving You” is an instant hit, laden with sweet hooks and a punchy attitude. Title track “I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me” is a dazzling nod to legendary jazz singer Esther Phillips, whilst firmly setting the tone for the album’s motif of broken relationships. Strong musicianship radiates on tracks such as “I Let a Good Man Down” and “Hit ‘Em Like Ali”, as Wilson’s vocals soar over the lush arrangements with earnest delivery. An impressive debut album worthy for the music collection of any lover of soul, funk, or pop.
