In August we say a fond farewell to two amazing PBS announcers and hello to some new friends.
Press Gang will be taking up an incredible opportunity in the US and will be winding up Zen Arcade on Monday July 31st. Press Gang has been a great servant of PBS and a champion for underground music, especially from local post-punk and indie-electro artists. We wish her well in her great adventure overseas!
From August 7th PBS listeners will hear a new Monday drive show. Hosted by Elle Young, Headhunters will be a mix of global sounds, electronica and alt-pop. Elle has presented Tropicalia in the insomnia slot for the last couple of years so there’ll inevitably also be a few Caribbean sounds and Afro-Cuban rhythms thrown into the mix.
On Tuesday July 25th JNett will also wind up her weekly PBS program Are You Ready. JNett will continue to be a part of PBS, doing fills and guest spots whenever she can. For the most part however JNett will enjoy more time with her young family and focus on her busy life outside of the radio studio.
Taking over the time slot we welcome MzRizk to the PBS program roster with Boogie Beat Suite. MzRizk is incredibly active in the Melbourne scene and will bring to PBS a mix of golden era hip-hop, boogie and block party jams, as well as the music that influenced and inspired those artists.
Congratulations to Elle and MzRizk, and sincere thanks and best wishes to Press Gang and JNett for their great contribution to PBS.
