Doming Home

Tom Lyngcoln

by Tom Lyngcoln

Feature Records for the week beginning Mon 26 Feb 2018

Recorded in a suburban room 10 minutes from one of the worst suburbs in Australia, Doming Home features 11 songs that are pretty much about sharks, but primarily about fear and negative space. The music is tense, spacious and volatile, yet wades knee-deep into traditional song. The sounds are both distant and immediate; the listener sits in the room on the faded 1970’s carpet, soaking up frequencies direct to their dome as passive home invaders.

Voted in the Top 50 Australian guitarists of all time by Australian Guitar Magazine, Tom Lyngcoln has been bending notes into human heads since the mid 1990’s, crushing sounds together between harrowing screams and free form guitar work in the tradition of Syd Barrett, John Frusciante, Cat Power and Will Oldham.

Originating from Hobart, Lyngcoln’s early love of dissonance & uncomfortable intensity has carried through all of his projects, from AIR-Award winning band The Nation Blue to Lee Memorial (with Sodastream’s Karl Smith & Sleater Kinney’s Laura Macfarlane) to Harmony (his Music Victoria award-nominated Best Live Band with wife Alex Lyngcoln and Mclusky’s Jon Chapple), and collaborations with Magic Dirt, Marc Ribot, Don Walker and more.
