PROJECT CABARET is a charity extravaganza to raise money and awareness for Project Futures. PROJECT FUTURES is a not for profit organisation inspired by the story of former Cambodian sex slave, Somaly Mam. PROJECT FUTURES’ vision is to inspire people to use their skills and get actively involved in charity. PROJECT FUTURES is determined to combat sex trafficking globally, and through events, media outlets, video campaigns and school presentations PROJECT FUTURES IS raising awareness and funding to stop this human rights violation.
PROJECT FUTURES is a network of young professionals who all work full time in their respective careers. They use their own time, funds and network to run PROJECT FUTURES and are currently partnered with the Somaly Mam Foundation.
Sex trafficking is the buying and selling of women and children into forced commercial prostitution. Victims of trafficking are subject to rape, forced abortions, torture, starvation and threats to family members. It is estimated that 2-4 million people will be sold into prostitution in the next 12 months, of this number 80% are women and 50% are children under the age of 18. The industry generates profits of more than US$9.5 billion a year.
PROJECT CABARET features a who’s who of Melbourne performing artists including Sammy J, Mikelangelo, Geraldine Hickey, Clairy Browne and more. Taking place on Thursday, July 14 at 7pm at the Espy’s Gershwin Room, PROJECT CABARET aims to raise $4000 in one night for PROJECT FUTURES.
