This week’s PBS Feature Album is The Great Bailout, the ninth studio album by Moor Mother aka Camae Ayewa. 

Called “the poet laureate of the apocalypse,” by Pitchfork, Ayewa’s music contains multitudes of instruments, voices and cacophony that take on themes of Afrofuturism and collective memory with the forebearers of jazz, hip hop and beat poetry in mind.

This week’s PBS Feature Album is Opelousafried by Melbourne’s swamp-blues powerhouse Opelousas.

Opelousafried showcases an evolution in the interplay between Kerri Simpson’s visceral vocals and  powerfully raw guitar, Anthony “Shorty” Shortte’s hypnotic grooves and swamp-soaked percussion, and
Alison Ferrier’s menacing electric guitar, keening amplified fiddle and sultry vocal tones.

Take Note are looking for their 2024 Take Note Jazz Leader. Applications are now open until 12pm on Monday February 26, 2024.

Now in its sixth year, Take Note is a program that addresses the underrepresentation of women and gender diverse musicians in jazz by celebrating and promoting women and gender diverse leaders on stage and in high schools across Victoria.
