If you look up the definition of (Alt) Alternative Country, it’s country music played by musicians who came from alternative or underground music scenes. Today the musical sound of Alt Country is recognised as ‘Americana.’

Just like the musicians from the Alt Country music scene, I approach country music from an Alternative music background. Through Uncle Tupelo, I was introduced to country music. Other artists that cemented my cross-over included Son Volt and Wilco. I like the fact that a lot of people got out of punk rock and into country – country and alternative country. I can relate to the rebellious nature in Country music. Real country music is a rebellion against mainstream music and ideas. That’s the link between traditional and Alt country music.
