Stonnington Jazz Festival 2017

Thursday 11 May 2017 - Sunday 21 May 2017

Returning for its twelfth year, the award-winning Stonnington Jazz is back to showcase a whole host of emerging and established jazz artists.

Kate Ceberano will celebrate the 30-year anniversary of her debut solo jazz album Kate Ceberano and Her Septet in a one-off performance at Malvern Town Hall on Saturday May 20. The 1987 Gold-Certified release featuring classics and interpretations of My Baby Just Cares For Me, One Note Samba and Midnight Sun. Since the success of her first solo effort, Kate has gone on to become one of Australia’s most celebrated artists, selling over a million and a half albums in Australia alone with five platinum albums, five gold albums and multiple ARIA awards.

A special Mother’s Day Jazz High Tea event will be hosted on Sunday May 14 in the elegant surrounds of the Malvern Town Hall. Olivia Chindamo, winner of the 2016 Bell Award for Young Australian Artist of the Year and recipient of the James Morrison Generations in Jazz scholarship, shall be joined by Craig Fermanis on guitar and Sam Anning on double bass for a wonderful afternoon filled with macaroons, cakes, sandwiches, champagne and tea.

Aussie music legends Vince Jones and Paul Grabowsky reunite for one night only at Chapel Off Chapel on Friday 12 May. Performing powerful pieces from their 2016 ARIA award-winning album Provenance, the duo have filled more than three decades with beautiful moments and wondrous style.

Last year’s wildly popular Mad Jazz event at The Astor returns once again with Mad Jazz 2 on Tuesday May 16. The Shaolin Afronauts will take over St Kilda’s iconic theatre to reinterpret the Mad Max 2 score live alongside a screening of the film. The eleven-piece Adelaide band led by Ross McHenry bring a distinct brand of interstellar-futurist afro-soul and funk that will ensure a completely unique viewing experience.

PLUS so much more AND curated by PBS’ own Chelsea Wilson (Jazz got Soul).
